BrandFinder believes consumers prefer to buy products off the shelf at a
local store. The BrandFinder mission is to
help consumers find their favorite brand and to provide "want to buy"
information to Brand Marketers and retailers to get the
right product on the right retail shelf.
When you look for your favorite brand and find it is not
available at your local store you may do one of the following:
Ask the store manager if it is "out of stock"- "sold out"
or if the store has
discontinued it
Keep looking in other retail stores
Call or email the company who makes it, the brand manufacturer, the Brand Marketer
Ask your friends in another part of the country to buy it for you
Look for your favorite Brand on the web or in a catalog
At some point you give up and buy a substitute brand
Catalog, E-Commerce Alternatives to "off the shelf"
BrandFinder believes consumers will buy and wait to have their
favorite product delivered from a catalog or a web site when there is no
"local" retail alternative. E-commerce, "direct marketing"
or any type of order with a delayed delivery cannot replace the instant
gratification a retail store visit.
The shopping cart and the cash register are hard to beat, when your
favorite Brand is on the shelf and there is no line at the check out.
Catalogers like Eddie Bauer or Victoria's Secret who also have retail stores,
know their consumers' definition (miles away and driving time) of a
"convenient and local store" varies by product. We don't know this definition
for every brand.
BrandFinder understands there will always be a conflict between
retailers (the "Trade") and brand marketers because of
different objectives:
A Brand Marketer wants the consumer to go to any
store and buy his brand
A retailer wants the consumer to come to his store and buy
lots of brands. The retailer wants a large "average order" and really
doesn't care which brands make up this transaction.
BrandFinder was designed to meet the needs of the Brand
Marketer. Brand Marketers use data from BrandFinder to convince retailers to
stock certain brands in specific stores.
